On 17 November 2025, the EVE Closing Event (Innovative Teaching, Positionality & Comics) took place at the University of Florence (D4 Building) and marked a fitting conclusion to the project’s journey. The afternoon unfolded smoothly, with strong participation and a shared sense that EVE’s core ambition—connecting innovative pedagogy with critical reflection on Europe–Africa relations—was fully visible in the room.
After the opening by Maria Stella Rognoni and Veronica Federico, Monika Bochenek’s talk on Jean Monnet Modules offered a clear framework for understanding how EU-funded teaching initiatives can support experimentation in the classroom and strengthen interdisciplinary learning pathways.
A central moment of the event was “Ecofutures: Drawing Futures – Comics, Justice, and Ecological Imagination” by Shannice Alogaga and Andrea Mancini. Their presence as comic artists, and the two ecological scenarios they presented across Europe and Africa, catalysed an intense and wide-ranging discussion: how visual narratives shape environmental imaginaries; how questions of justice, responsibility, and positionality enter the frame; and how comics can function not only as communication, but as a method for producing and debating knowledge.
The programme concluded with “Comics for Teaching” (Rognoni & Federico), followed by the exhibition of EVE comics and a closing toast at the Campus Café (Via delle Pandette 14)—a final opportunity to continue the conversation informally and celebrate the collective work behind the project with the students who were at the center of it.
