Dear All,
a bit of time passed, but we still want to remember and share with you our team’s enriching experience in Prague, in occasion of the 2025 ECAS Conference.
This year’s theme of the European Conference on African Studies delved into the topic of African, Afropolitan, and Afropean belongings, with the engagement of scholars and researchers from institutions all around Europe.
Our delegation in Prague was composed by memebrs of our team based at the University of Florence, Italy: Maria Stella Rognoni, Associate Professor of History and Institutions of Africa, Phd Student in Comparative Law Rachele Cecchi, Junior Research Fellow Mariachiara Boldrini and one of EVE’s Fall School ex student, Gemima Silva e Silva. Another ex student, Braimah Abdulrasak Lucky, who worked together with Gemima for their final paper for the Fall School, joined the conference online. The team had the opportunity to share their experiences and the mission of the EVE project, while exchanging opinions with other fellows.
We would like to leave you with the words of Gemima about the Fall Scholl and the participation at the ECAS Conference.

Last year, I enrolled in the Eve Fall School — an online programme dedicated to African Studies. I was looking for a way to deepen my understanding of Africa’s
contemporary dynamics, and the Fall School turned out to be exactly what I searching.
The course was intellectually stimulating and incredibly well-structured. Over several
weeks, I had the chance to engage with renowned scholars, exchange ideas with peers from all over the world, and explore diverse perspectives on Africa’s past and present. For the final essay, I developed a piece of research that pushed me to apply the theories, methods, and insights gained during the programme. That work didn’t just stay in my notebook — it became my ticket to present at the European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) in Prague.
Standing there, sharing my work with an international audience of researchers and practitioners, was an unforgettable experience and a personal milestone.
The Eve Fall School was more than just a course; it was a launchpad. It gave me the
knowledge, skills, and confidence to step into larger academic conversations and
contribute my voice.
If you are considering applying this year, I can only say: go for it. Whether you are a
student, researcher, or professional, the Fall School will challenge you, inspire you, and connect you to a vibrant network of people passionate about African Studies. Who knows?
Your final project might just take you somewhere unexpected!
